Why competitors outrank you in Vilas, WI
Foot traffic and visitor searches are real here, so photos, hours, and directions requests carry unusual weight.
The area
How search works in Vilas
A near-west Madison neighborhood by Vilas Park and the Henry Vilas Zoo, close to downtown and the UW campus.
Google says local results are primarily influenced by relevance, distance, and prominence. You can't move your business closer to the person searching in Vilas — so the work is making your relevance and prominence unmistakable: accurate business information everywhere, pages that name what you do and where you do it, a complete Google Business Profile, and a steady flow of real reviews.
That also means a real Vilas page — services offered here, nearby areas served, local project examples, real photos — not one of fifty near-identical pages where only the place name changes.
The five actions
- #5 Fix your business info everywhere
One source of truth for name, address or service area, phone, website, and hours — then match every listing to it. - #4 Structure your content for AI search
State your facts as real page text so Google AI Overviews and AI search tools can retrieve and cite them. - #3 Optimize the website for the decision
What you do, where you do it, why you can be trusted, and what to do next — obvious in seconds on mobile. - #2 Max out your Google Business Profile
Most specific primary category, every useful field completed, granular services, and real photos on a cadence. - #1 Build a review system, not a review trick
Ask every customer at the right moment, respond to all of them, and never incentivize reviews.
